DATE OF MOH ACTION: 07/03/1862 Pea Ridge, Arkansas.

 

He served as a Private in Company A, 3rd Iowa Cavalry, Union Army. On March 7, 1862, during a charge on Confederate forces at Pea Ridge, Arkansas, Private Power went to the aid of a dismounted trooper who was surrounded by the enemy, took him up on his own horse and carried him to safety. For courage in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on March 6, 1899.
