DATE OF MOH ACTION: 01/07/1898 El Caney, Cuba.

 

Spanish-American War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. An 1897 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, he served in the United States during the War with Spain as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 17th United States Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at El Caney, Cuba, on July 1, 1898. His Medal was awarded to him on June 21, 1899. He would go on to have a 40 year career in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Brigadier General before retiring in 1937. During World War I he served as Chief of Staff for the 81st Division, and earned the Distinguished Service Medal.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

Gallantly assisted in the rescue of the wounded from in front of the lines under heavy fire of the enemy.
