Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Colonel in the Union Army. He was a prisoner of war. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Lt. Colonel in the 104th Illinois Infantry for action on July 20, 1864 at Peach Tree Creek, Georgia.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

"With conspicuous coolness and bravery rallied his men under a severe attack, reformed the broken ranks, and repulsed the attack."
