DATE OF MOH ACTION: 22/10/1862 Pocataligo, South Carolina.

 

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He entered the Union Navy in Maryland.Ringold drowned on 14 October 1864, although the exact location is unknown.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

Served as coxswain on board the USS Wabash in the engagement at Pocataligo,SC, 22 October 1862. Soliciting permission to accompany the howitzer corps and performing his duty with such gallanry and presence of mind as to attract the attention of all around him. Ringold, knowing there was a scarcity of ammunition, went through the whole line of fire with his shirt slung over his shoulder filled with fixed ammunition which he had brought from two miles to the rear of the lines.
