Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a First Sergeant in Company D, 4th East Tennessee Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Minville, Tennessee on October 3, 1863.

Went to the aid of a wounded comrade between the lines and carried him to a place of safety
