DATE OF MOH ACTION: 19/10/1864 Cedar Creek, Virginia.

 

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. He enlisted in the Union Army at Middleton, Indiana and served as a Private in Company E, 8th Indiana Infantry. In the battle at Cedar Creek, Virginia on October 19, 1864, he captured the Confederate battle flag. He received his Medal of Honor from President Abraham Lincoln in Washington on October 26, 1864.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Ira Hough, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 19 October 1864, while serving with Company E, 8th Indiana Infantry, in action at Cedar Creek, Virginia, for capture of flag.

 

BURIAL LOCATION: SALEM METHODIST CEMETERY, GRACEVILLE, FLORIDA.
