Indian Wars Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in Company F, 6th US Cavalry. During a patrol movement at White River, South Dakota, January 1, 1891, units of the 6th US Cavalry came under attack from hostile Indians. Noticing that Troop K was in parallel, Sergeant Knight took part of his column and led an advance to their assistance. For courage in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on May 1, 1891.
