DATE OF MOH ACTION: 31/03/1901 USS Petrel.

 

Peacetime Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He was also known as Louis Fred Theis. His first enlistment in the USMC was under the alias Louis F. Theis at the NYC Navy Yard in January 1898. His second enlistment in the USMC was in Detroit MI. He was dishonorably discharged in Port au Prince, Haiti on September 2, 1917, and busted from GSgt. to Private.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

Serving on board the USS Petrel; for heroism and gallantry, fearlesly exposing his own life to danger for the saving of the others on the occasion of the fire on board that vessel, 31 March 1901
