Spanish-American War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the War with Spain as a Private on board the "USS Marblehead". He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898. His Medal was awarded to him on July 7, 1899.
