DATE OF MOH ACTION: 11/05/1898 Cienfuegos, Cuba.

 

Spanish-American War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Navy during the War with Spain as a Machinist First Class on board the "USS Marblehead". He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during the cutting of the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898. His medal was awarded on 7th July 1899.

 

MOH CITATION:

 

On board the U.S.S. Marblehead during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Hart set an example of extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action.
